Read During Diwali

A yearly return through Light Up The Darkness: A Fluorescent Awakening

Light Up The Darkness: A Fluorescent Awakening was written as a return through the sacred days of Diwali and the life that follows.

It is a book of remembrance, awakening, vow, and inner light. The first five Days are meant to align with the five sacred days of Diwali. The sixth Day belongs to integration, discipline, and the months that follow.

Read slowly.
Read prayerfully.
Read with sincerity.
Return each year.

The Six-Day Reading Rhythm

Read one Day on each of the five sacred days of Diwali. Return to Day Six in the days and months that follow.

Day One

Make room for the light within.

Preparation, receptivity, inward order, and readiness.

Day Two

Clear what obscures the light within.

Clarification, purification, courage, and release.

Day Three

Welcome the light within.

Illumination, devotion, beauty, sacred radiance, and the summit of the reading passage.

Day Four

Honor what sustains the light within.

Gratitude, nourishment, trust, protection, and reverence for sustainment.

Day Five

Let the light within become love.

Love, kinship, blessing, tenderness, loyalty, and sacred relationship.

Day Six

Carry the light within through the year.

Integration, perseverance, recommitment, continuity, and return.

Day Six is not bound to the festival. It belongs to the remainder of the year — to integration, discipline, and the ongoing practice of remembrance.

How to Prepare to Read Each Day

Before reading, pause.

If possible, light a lamp or candle.
Sit in stillness for a few moments.
Take three slow breaths.
Let the body settle.
Let the mind become quieter.
Let the noise of the outer world soften.

Do not rush into these pages as though they were ordinary information. Enter slowly. Leave slowly. Protect the field of reading.

The Spirit of the Reading

This book begins with a sacred symbol, a blessing, a prayer, and a yearly vow.

It is meant to function contemplatively.
Not merely to be looked at, but to be sat with.
Not merely to be read once, but to be returned to.
Not merely to speak of light, but to help the reader practice it.

For many readers, Diwali will become the yearly threshold through which this book is re-entered.

A Yearly Return

A yearly return matters because forgetting often happens gradually.

The soul is not usually lost in one dramatic fall, but in many small concessions to speed, noise, fear, adaptation, and spiritual sleep.

For that reason, remembrance may need rhythm, recurrence, and yearly consecration.
This reading is not only for the festival itself, but for the life that follows it.
